It’s all about balance

Healthy eating is not about eating perfectly and avoiding all junk food, all of the time. Instead, it’s about developing habits that will have you going for healthier options when it comes to the foods you eat.

To be healthy, you need to eat nutritious foods more often than not. It may take a little practice and but eating more healthily will always make you feel better in the long term.

## Easy healthy eating hacks 

1.  Make meals a regular (and planned) thing  
      
    When your eating patterns are regular and planned you’re much more likely to include the recommended serves across the 5 food groups. When they’re not, you’re probably going to have more [sometimes foods](https://www.healthylife.com.au/learn/sometimes-foods-and-drinks) in your diet, which means more sugary foods and saturated fats.
2.  Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day  
      
    Did you know that if you skip breakfast you’ll likely give in to that butter-laden banana bread for morning tea?  
      
    Turns out, if you eat a healthy breakfast you’re more likely to continue to eat well throughout the day, and leave the choccy biscuits for Steve in finance. 
3.  Don’t be a couch potato  
      
    Eating in front of the television has become a pretty common habit for many Aussie households. In fact, [almost half of us](https://www.eatforhealth.gov.au/eating-well/tips-eating-well "Tips for eating well") plonk ourselves down in front of the telly to eat our evening meal.  
      
    This means we’re more likely to make less than great food choices, eat more take-away and make it harder to recognise our body’s signals about hunger and satiety.
