Micellar Water Cleanser

Your guide to micellar water

Micellar water is a convenient and gentle product you can use to clean your face without water. At Healthylife, we have a range of micellar water cleansers to help you remove oil and makeup from your face. Here’s what you need to know about it.

What is micellar water?

Micellar water is a type of facial cleanser and makeup remover. It uses tiny cleansing molecules called micelles to remove dirt, oil and makeup from your skin. The micelles are small clusters of molecules that have hydrophilic (water-attracting) and hydrophobic (oil-attracting) properties. The dual nature of micellar water allows you to gently cleanse your skin without harsh scrubbing or rinsing with water.

How do you use micellar water?

Micellar water is especially handy for quick, on-the-go cleansing and is convenient to use as you don’t need water. To use, take a cotton pad and soak it with your micellar water. (Tip: you don’t need a lot, just enough to moisten the pad.) Then, gently swipe it over your face, focusing on the areas where you may have more makeup or oil build-up. Take care not to rub too hard, especially around your eyes. If your cotton pad looks dirty, repeat the process until the pad comes away clean.

What are the benefits of micellar water?

The key benefits of using micellar cleansing water are that it’s gentle on most skin types and you don’t need water to rinse it off. Many formulations of micellar water also contain moisturising ingredients, which may leave your skin feeling hydrated. It may be an especially good option for sensitive skin as it’s typically non-irritating.

Can micellar water be used by all skin types?

Yes, generally, micellar water is suitable for most skin types. However, choosing a formulation for your skin is important to help you get the best result. For example, if you have sensitive skin, look for a micellar cleansing water labelled as hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and gentle.

It’s also best to avoid rubbing your skin and let the cotton pad do the work when using micellar water, as it’s designed to gently lift makeup and oil. Whenever you try a new product, it’s useful to do a patch test on a small area of your skin and consult your healthcare professional if you experience any side effects.
