5 fun Galentine’s Day ideas

It all started with a TV show. Galentine’s Day (also known as Palentine’s Day) was born after Leslie Knope, Amy Poehler's character on Parks and Recreation held a party on February 13 to celebrate the female friendships in her life.
Since that episode aired, Galentine’s Day has taken off.
And if you’re keen to celebrate with your closest gal pals but need some inspiration, we’ve got you covered. Here are five of our favourite Galentine’s Day celebration ideas.

1. Go away for the weekend
Spend some serious quality time with your BFFs and make a weekend out of it. Why celebrate for just one day when you can all go away together at a fabulous location for a couple of nights?
If you need an excuse to convince your partner to look after the kids for the weekend, just tell them, “It’s science!” According to research, the more hours you spend together with your friends, the closer your friendships may be.
2. Get a personal chef for the evening
Feel like a celebrity and invite your ‘entourage’ over for an evening of delicious food without all the work. Hire a personal chef to cook for you and your friends at your very own Galentine’s Day dinner party.
While the food might be fancy, you could suggest a more relaxed dress code to make the evening more chilled and comfortable. Encourage everyone to wear their comfiest PJs or trackies while they enjoy some fine dining without all the hassle of dressing up to the nines.
Don’t forget to add some Galentine’s Day decorations to make the night feel extra special too.

3. Send a card via snail mail
Have a long-distance friendship you want to celebrate? Don’t let distance get in the way - send your best friends a Galentine’s Day card in the post. It always feels nice to get a card in your letterbox instead of the usual bills or junk mail.

7 tips for building and maintaining friendships when you’re busy
When life gets busy with work or family, it’s all too easy to neglect your friends. Luckily, Consultant Psychologist Dr Bec Jackson has some simple tips and recommendations for building and maintaining lasting friendships.
Not sure what to write in a Galentine’s Day card? It doesn’t need to be complex - simply tell your friends how much they mean to you.
If you run out of time to send a physical card, send them a message on social media. According to a recent Australian study, social media may help to keep us connected by providing an alternative avenue to develop and maintain social relationships.
4. Work out together
While spending more time together may help keep your friendships strong, most of us have very busy lives. That’s especially true if you’re part of the ‘sandwich generation', who are busy looking after ageing parents while also raising kids.
But even if you’re a little time-poor, you can still celebrate Galentine’s Day by combining friendship time with fitness.
Organise to meet up and do a workout with your friends. Exercising with your buddies might make it more fun, plus you get to spend extra time together. You’re literally helping to build healthy friendships.

5. Give them gifts
‘Receiving gifts’ is one of the five love languages that marriage counsellor Dr Gary Chapman originally created. A ‘love language’ is a concept used to describe the different ways we naturally tend to express – and want to receive – love in our relationships, including friendships.
If you have friends who speak the ‘receiving gifts’ love language, try putting together a special Galentine’s Day gift basket for them.
Celebrate the friend zone
Galentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the friends in your life with some fun activities. It’s also a great reason to spend more time with your best buds.
