Product Overview

Upton's Paste APF

What is Upton's Paste

Upton’s Paste is a corrosive agent used for the treatment of warts.  The active ingredients are:

1) Trichloroacetic Acid 10% (w/w) which is a caustic agent. It corrodes the top layer of the skin via a chemical reaction, and

2) Salicylic Acid 60% w/w, a keratolytic agent, which causes softening and separation of the stratum corneum of the epidermis.

Before Using Upton's Paste

Do not use Upton's paste if

  • You are allergic to Salicylates (including Aspirin allergy), Tricholoracetic Acid or glycerol; or
  • Your asthma is precipitated by aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Not recommended in patients with diabetes, peripheral vascular disease or neuropathy. This treatment should only be used in these patients under close supervision of the patient’s medical doctor or podiatrist to ensure normal skin is not affected.

Upton’s Paste Wart Treatment Protocol

Step 1: Purchase “Blue labelled” Leukoplast ™

Step 2: Have a warm bath or soak the area in soapy, warm water for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Protecting the skin around the wart:

To protect the healthy skin around the wart, paint around the wart with a clear nail polish (Base coat). Make sure NOT to paint over the wart itself.

Step 4: To assist in penetration of the paste use a sharpened cuticle stick to gently press in to the center of the wart, gently twist to break the skin surface.

Step 5: Apply a thick layer of Upton’s paste (approximately 3 mm thick) to the treatment area using a cuticle stick, tooth pick or cotton bud.

Step 6: Cover with “Blue labelled” Leukoplast™

Step 7: Once a week, leave dressing off for several hours, then pare down the dead, dark, black skin, of the wart with a Gem™ razor blade or pumice stone. Then repeat the above process.
