Why am I feeling tired?

We all have times in our life when our energy is naturally higher or lower. Balancing family life with work and just the general ‘busyness’ that seems to be the norm can all make us tired.

Like a lot of things, energy levels can vary naturally between people. We all have times in our life when our energy is naturally higher or lower.

And while your version of ‘tired’ may be different to another’s there are certain things that can zap your energy levels.

Stress and burnout

Often, there are psychological reasons behind fatigue. Stress, burnout, anxiety, overwork and not sleeping enough can all drain the batteries.

Natural changes in energy

Our energy levels naturally change throughout the day too, depending on a whole range of factors. Our circadian rhythms, stress levels and how much sleep we get will all cause peaks and troughs in energy.

The food on your plate

A less than optimal diet is one of the biggest contributing factors to low energy levels. And unfortunately, it’s a vicious cycle, since low energy levels often then lead to cutting food corners.

3 more ways to get your bounce back

  1. Eat well and eat regularly
Eating a healthy diet will ensure you get plenty of energy-supporting vitamins and minerals. Include vegetables, fruit, wholegrains and lean proteins in your daily diet. Plus these foods are sources of longer-lasting, more stable energy for your body than sugary sometimes foods.

It’s also not great if you skip meals. Your blood sugar levels are more likely to fluctuate if you do, causing that lagging feeling of low energy.
  2. Have a drink of water
Sometimes your low energy levels may simply be a result of mild dehydration. A tall glass of water just might be the trick to beating back tiredness and fatigue.
  3. Get more movement in your day
We know that when you’re at level meh on the energy scale, exercising is probably not floating your boat. But with a burst of exercise-induced endorphins and a nice sense of self-satisfaction that you got up and moved, you’ll be back on top of the energy game.

Plus, regular exercise also helps with better sleep, another key element for increasing your energy.
